# How to Buy USDT on OKX P2P

## Before you start

2. **Have a payment account in your own name ready.** OKX requires **the name on your payment account to match the name on your OKX account**.

## The steps (6)

### 1. Open P2P

**Buy crypto** → **P2P trading** → **Buy**.

### 2. Pick your currencies and filter the offers

Choose your local currency and the coin you want (USDT), filter by payment method, then tap **Apply**.

### 3. Choose a merchant

Tap **Buy** next to the offer that suits you, enter an amount **within the order limits** and pick your payment method.

### 4. Confirm the order

Tap **Buy USDT with 0 fees**, then **I understand and continue**. From this point, OKX holds the crypto until the merchant confirms they've received your payment, the order is canceled, or it times out.

### 5. Pay, then tap "I have paid"

Pay the merchant using the method shown in the order. Then tap **I have paid**, upload your **proof of payment** and tap **Confirm payment**. You can message the merchant through the **Chat**.

> ⚠️ **OKX's warnings:**
> - **Don't pay if the order is about to time out.** If the timer hits zero before you tap "I have paid", the crypto goes back to the merchant.
> - **Never cancel an order you've already paid for.** Contact the merchant first to arrange a refund.
> - **Only tap "I have paid" once you've actually paid.**

### 6. Wait for the crypto to be released

Once the merchant confirms the money has arrived, the crypto is released to your account. **If the merchant doesn't release it, you can open a dispute**, and the support team will review the case and release the crypto once they've verified it.

## The protection period after buying

OKX says that buying on P2P may trigger a **protection mechanism that blocks selling and withdrawals for a while** (the periods mentioned are 1, 3 or 7 days). You'll find the exact length in your account details. Plan for this if you're buying to send the crypto on right away.
